SELVEDGE DENIM

Selvedge denim is the original denim and the highest quality of denim. It is what jeans where originally made of before manufacturers developed new, cheaper methods of producing denim. These new methods, however, drastically reduced the quality and longevity of the denim and the products they produced with that denim.

What makes Selvedge Denim so special?
Selvedge Denim is denim that is made on old fashioned shuttle looms only in old mills in Japan and old cone mills in the U.S. unlike today's basic denim. The process of being made on a shuttle loom creates a self sealed edge on the denim hence the term "Selvedge" (self-edge). As opposed to just being cut to size and leaving the denim frays open and then having to embroider the edge to prevent the denim from falling apart, the selvedge prevents the denim from fraying and eliminating the embroidery process. Thus creating a stronger, longer lasting denim.
